Ey there!
Weather outside is frightful, eh…but it's Winter and there is nothing we can do about it.
I don't know about you, but rain, snow, ice and darkness do not motivate me to workout…I'm more of a sun, beach and palm trees type of guy. But what does motivate me are the post workout energy and the physical benefits.
Sometimes we need to tell ourselves a story or give ourselves affirmations in order to get out of a negative mindset…something that Winter Weather enhances.
Here are some truths that you can affirm yourself:
- It's human nature to take the path of easiest resistance aka sleeping in, eating fast food, and laying on the couch.
- You working out at 60% of your normal energy levels is 10x as effective as laying down or sleeping in.
- Your positive "feel good" hormonal flow will increase during and especially after your workout.
- Your metabolism, digestion and elimination systems will rev up once you start moving.
Weather can screw up the roads and your work schedule but it cannot disrupt your ability to workout – only YOU can.
There is no coincidence that people gain more weight on average during the winter or that cities with chronic bad weather overall have a higher percentage of people who suffer depression. The weather does not help!
While you can't control the weather, YOU CAN control whether or not YOU decide to move and workout.
Find motivation not in how you feel or what the weather is like, but rather the positive benefits YOU will achieve post workout.
